Quoting Kiffin: Wednesday Practice

Lane Kiffin

USC head coach Lane Kiffin talks about the excitement of returning to the Coliseum for the home opener, the unique talent of defensive end Nick Perry and much more.

Lane Kiffin on the excitement of playing at home:

"I think you kind of feel a sense of excitement amongst the players as this home opener gets closer. The excitement of playing in front of their families and our crowd and our people, especially after this offseason, is very exciting for them. I think we can feel that as we get closer to the game and the week goes on."

Lane Kiffin on cornerback T.J. Bryant:

"We're trying to work him back in. You know, he played a decent amount of snaps at nickel last year and was right in the competition in the spring in contention to be a starter and definitely play in nickel, so we have given him a great opportunity to get back in there."

Lane Kiffin on defensive end Nick Perry:

"I mean you're talking about a guy who was a Freshman All-American last year, a guy who has had a great offseason and testing-wise is off the charts. I mean he tests right now as a top 10, top 15 pick on paper - height, weight speed, vertical. We were watching some film last night, I was in there with Coach O watching some drills and there's probably only 10-15 people like him in the world that have his ability. If you're talking about a guy who jumps 34 inches and plays defensive end, a guy who if you take his 10-yard and 20-yard dash it matches our DBs. Hopefully he'll reach that potential. We're very excited to get him back whenever that is."

Lane Kiffin on USC's special teams play in the season opener:

"I thought there were some really good things, obviously with the punt return and kickoff coverage, four touchbacks and two other times inside the 20, which is hard to do. It was good to see the effort. Our punt protection was not very good actually, they almost blocked two punts, so there are things to improve on. There are always first game issues in all phases of the game, especially when it's your first game together as a new staff with your players, so I think we will continue to improve on special teams."

Lane Kiffin on the status of Patrick Hall

"I've had conversations with him. I feel Patrick understands the severity of this. I hope and feel that Patrick is headed in the right direction."
