Grant Verhoeven, 6-7 JR PF Visalia (Calif.) Central Valley Christian, is one of the top post prospects in the West Coast class of 2012. A deceptive athlete, Verhoeven has a great motor and he’s a superior defender and rebounder. He’s got an excellent feel for the game and he’s a tremendous competitor as well.
I spoke with Verhoeven recently and he told me that he’s looking at four schools.
“Stanford, Washington, Cal and St. Mary’s are the four schools I’m considering,” said Verhoeven.
Each school has offered so far except for Stanford.
Verhoeven took an unofficial visit to Washington last summer.
“It was great,” said Verhoeven. “The campus is huge and it’s beautiful up there.”
I asked Verhoeven if location would play a role in his decision.
“Being close to home is a little bit of an issue,” said Verhoeven.
Verhoeven talked a little about the other issues he will consider when making his choice.
“The coaches and players – having a good mesh together with them is important,” said Verhoeven. “And the academics as well.”
Verhoeven said he hopes to pick a school by the start of his senior year. He said he has a 4.0 GPA.
