"I'm very excited to be a Trojan," Fitts said. "My plan was to wait until next month or actually after our school was done with spring ball. I wanted to help the guys on my team get recruited and I figured if I was still out there, more coaches would come by and notice them.
"I came up to USC today early, around 9:00 and got a tour of the campus from Coach Cregg, my main recruiter. I've been up to USC before but I spent more time with the coaches this time, talked to Coach Baxter about my academic game plan and saw the new john McKay Center, which is incredible. After that, I knew I was ready to do it."
Fitts waited until after the scrimmage was over and DL coach Ed Orgeron approached him.
"He asked how I liked the scrimmage and then asked if I was ready to be a Trojan," Fitts said. "I just smiled and said I was. He got all excited and called Lane Kiffin over. Coach Kiffin asked if I had some good news for him and then I even talked to Pat Haden. I told him I committed and he said I just made his day.
"I've always wanted to play for USC, that's my dream school. I've never wanted to go anywhere else to have this opportunity is incredible. It's crazy because at their Junior Day, I didn't think they really wanted me and now I'm a Trojan so it's exciting."
Fitts said he's working on graduating early and is on track to do so.
"I'm taking senior English right now," Fitts said. "In the summer, I just need to take government and economics and I'll be all set. I'm looking forward to getting in there early and basically have an extra semester of school paid for, that was big for my family.
"I'm still going to take trips, I asked coach Cregg about that. I said for the life experience of it, could I do my visits and he said as long as they got the last one, he was OK with it. I'm looking at Georgia, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and UCLA but I'm a Trojan, that's where my heart is and there is no way I'll go anywhere else."
