From Recruit to Recruiter

Chris Hawkins

USC commit Chris Hawkins is recruiting his Rancho Cucamonga teammate, Tahaan Goodman, a four-star safety to join him at Southern California.

Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) four-star cornerback Chris Hawkins gave his commitment to USC exactly one month ago today.

Since then, little has changed in Hawkins' daily routine as he continues to polish his technique and work on filling out his body.

However, there is one addition to his daily regimen: humming USC's fight song, "Fight On!"

Hawkins committed to USC last month, saying it's his dream school. Now, he's intent on convincing 2013 teammate, four-star safety Tahaan Goodman that it's the place he should want to play as well.

"I talk to him almost every day," said Hawkins. "The other day he sounded really positive on USC. I do the chant that the band plays in his ear every day and every time I see him. It's helping the cause because he loves the song. He starts singing it with me."

Songs aside, Hawkins fully believes Goodman will join him at USC come next fall.

"(Tahaan) wants to go to school with me, and it's just going good right now because he likes USC," said Hawkins. "They were the first to start recruiting him since he was a freshman."

As for Hawkins, with his own commitment behind him, his focus is now directed at making the necessary improvements to compete for a starting job when he gets to USC.

Hawkins stays in regular communication with USC defensive backs coach Marvin Sanders.

"Coach (Marvin) Sanders told me that if I come in strong enough and big enough that I could possibly play right away," said Hawkins.
