“They talked to me what they like about me as a player, they talked to me about my academics, and then they offered me,” Scott recounted. “I guess they seen my highlight tape. The year is going pretty good. I missed a few games, but I’ve been doing pretty good. Then with me coming up there (for two unofficial visits to demonstrate interest) they just went ahead and offered.”
Now Michigan is on the list of options that Scott and good friend Mason Cole have in common. The East Lake teammates traveled to Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit together during the summer then again last month for the Wolverines battle with Michigan State. Their compared notes on Michigan and all their other common suitors will be crucial to each of their decisions.
“When I went to the (Michigan) game I was excited to see the atmosphere and tradition that goes on with the team and the fan base,” said Scott. “(The Big House) is always sold out. It’s ridiculous. Plus when I went on the summer visit we checked the academics out and saw the city. It was really nice.”
“(Mason and I) talked about it. We talk about all the schools. We’re going to go to the same school. We know for a fact we’re going to the same school.”
Cole came away from his most recent trip to Michigan extremely enamored with the Maize & Blue. And as a native Chicagoan, that opinion isn’t unduly influenced by the specter of Midwest winters. Scott insists weather won’t be a factor for him either, but for a much different reason.
“I know I can (go to school in a northern climate),” Scott said confidently. "It’s just a matter of me growing up. If I leave Florida, that’s me growing up into a man. If I leave the state, that is going to be the reason why."
At the moment, the Sunshine State star isn’t in any rush to figure where he’ll be in future. He and Cole have plenty of time to do that.
‘I’m just letting (recruiting) go by and not really worrying about anything,” stated Scott. “I’ll evaluate it when I’m a senior. I know I want to go where they pass the ball. If you’re not going to pass the ball you have no shot. (Laughter) But I don’t plan on making my decision anytime soon."
“(Cole and I) are going to narrow (the list of suitors) down in a few. It’s just a matter of time."
