Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep dual sport star, Devon Allen, has committed to play football and run track for the Oregon Ducks...

Highly regarded dual sport prospect, Devon Allen, out of Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep brought his recruitment to a close on Friday.

"I decided it was the right place for me, so I did it," Allen says of his commitment to the Ducks.

"I thought about it last night and I talked to my dad, he said I could do what I wanted, so I decided to go ahead with it."

Despite having a full ride scholarship offer from Oregon's track and field program, Allen, who holds Arizona State records for the 110 meter hurdle (13.52) and 300 meter hurdle (36.39), didn't receive an offer from UO Football until earlier this week.

"It's what I was waiting for," he admits.

The offer from Mark Helfrich and company came on Tuesday evening.

"I know the coaches were straight up with me," he explains. "They said, 'we have two spots for receivers and two commits, but if anybody transfers, we'll give you a spot'. The quarterback (Bryan Bennett) transferred, and the next day, I got a call.

It has been reported that Matt Lubick will be the next wide receiver coach in Eugene. Although it's a familiar face, the timing was a coincidence, says Allen.

"I was actually going to do it last night and I didn't find out about that until today," he explains. "But I actually know Coach Lubick from when Duke was recruiting me, my sophomore year."

The four-star wide receiver was excited about the positive reaction from the coaches, upon hearing the good news.

"I talked to Coach Frost and Coach H, and then I called the track coaches right after I got off the phone with the football team," he shares. "They were pretty excited. The coaches said they were jumping around, so that was kind of cool."

Allen has lofty goals for his time at both Autzen Stadium and Hayward Field.

"I plan on coming in and doing my best. They kind of just said that they need some speed out there. They have DeAnthony Thomas, but he's usually in the backfield. My goal is to play freshman year and then during the spring, I'll go out and run track.

"It's a year round thing for me, with football and track. I think it's the best combination for me, with both sports being as good as they are. I can possibly win two National Championships in one year; that would be sick."

Allen chose the Ducks over a top five list of schools, including Arkansas, Florida State, Stanford, and UCLA.

The prospect addresses speculations that he may have not been admitted into Stanford.

"I actually haven't heard yet," he states. "They said they'll have it by the weekend. They asked me if I wanted to wait until I hear from admissions, but I told them not really, because the Oregon football offer is what I've been waiting for this whole time and I'm happy with my decision."

He has also cancelled a previously scheduled official visit to Arkansas.

"I'm not planning on going anymore," says Allen. "The Oregon policy is that once you commit, you're done with visits."

Done with visits and done with the recruiting process, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete is 100% Duck.

Oregon fans can look forward to seeing the commit in action all year round.
