Four-Star: Leon McQuay III

Leon McQuay III

Leon McQuay III is already a lock for USC's 2013 recruiting class. The Florida native is enrolled in classes for the spring semester at USC.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — When Leon McQuay committed to USC at the Under Armour All-American game Jan. 4 it had to be music to the Trojan coaching staffs' ears.

After all, it was partly the music that brought McQuay to Los Angeles. The four-star safety isn't just pursuing a career on the football field; he dreams of becoming a music producer.

His Dec. 4 official visit to USC was highlighted by time spent at the university's music department. "It's the best set up we have seen," McQuay said after the visit. "The film complex studio is new just like much of their football facilities." He plans to major in audio engineering .

McQuay took all five of his official visits before committing, including trips to Florida State, Michigan, Oregon, and Vanderbilt before making his way to USC.

The 6-foot-2 185 pound safety is's sixth ranked safety in the nation. He grabbed 13 interceptions in his final three years at Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High School.

He is one of seven USC 2013 commits already enrolled in classes.

National recruiting analyst Chad Simmons on Leon McQuay:
Not many look better at safety than McQuay. He is a very long defensive back, he can easily carry another 20 pounds, and he is a very intelligent player. He plays for a top program and he knows the game. He has shown good instincts at safety and he has great range on the back end of the defense. He can work on his footwork, his explosiveness, and his overall coverage skills. He is best when free to roam the secondary.
