Four-Star: Chris Hawkins

Scout.com four-star cornerback Chris Hawkins is already on campus at USC. Take a look back at his journey to become a Trojan.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Chris Hawkins may have committed to USC on April 1, known to many as "April Fools Day", but his decision was no joke.

A month earlier, the Scout.com four-star cornerback nearly committed to Stanford but received an offer to USC the day before. "When USC offered, all my life I wanted to play for the Trojans," Hawkins told FOX Sports NEXT after committing, "We're a Trojan family and there's where I always wanted to go."

Hawkins admitted at the Army All-American game there was a time after his verbal commitment when he wasn't sure about the status of his recruitment. "I wasn't really getting calls from my coach (Marvin) Sanders," he said.

It was around that same time the 6-foot 170-pound defensive back decided it would be in his best interest to check on his other options. Hawkins took official visits to California, Notre Dame, and Washington in September and October. In December he made his way west on the Interest-10 freeway to his final stop at USC.

"When I took my official visit that summed everything up," Hawkins said. "I felt like that was the place I wanted to be the whole time. "

Hawkins is one of six class of 2013 early enrollees for the Trojans. He arrived to campus on Jan. 10 to start classes on Jan. 14, the first day of the spring semester.

The Army All-American collected two interceptions and made 53 tackles as a senior at Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) High School.

He is expected to compete right away for a starting spot in USC's depleted secondary.
