Martin is 'very relatable to me'

Adoree Jackson

FOX Sports NEXT caught up with 2014 No. 2 cornerback Adoree Jackson to get the latest on his recruitment. Jackson most recently picked up an offer from Illinois and is continuing to take constant visits around Southern California.

Scout.com five-star cornerback Adoree Jackson is currently attending Gardena (Calif.) Serra High School, but his hometown will always be Belleville (Ill.).

That means a recent offer from Illinois held a little more weight than most of the others for Jackson. The 2014 recruit originally wanted to go to Illinois to play basketball.

"It was nice because actually growing up I remember seeing Dee Brown and Darren Williams all on the same team playing basketball," Jackson said. "Now its just very fun to have your hometown [offer]. It's not even that far away, just an hour and a half away from where I stay. It's nice."

I think I will consider going home and playing close to home," he continued.

Although he's grown comfortable in Southern California, Jackson says unlike a lot of recruits from the area, he doesn't think a desire to stay in California will play a role in his recruitment.

What will play a role however are the relationships he is starting to build with coaches in the Southern California area. They are relationships originally based off geography, but have now grown to be about much more.

"I just go to USC and UCLA on unofficial visits all the time," Jackson said. "I think it will play a factor in my decision because we get closer every time I see them. We make a bond so it's going to be hard."

At UCLA Jackson is closest with the Bruins' defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin. "He's very relatable to me," Jackson said. "He coaches my position – that's a big factor."

Jackson also likes that UCLA head coach Jim Mora was once a defensive backs coach, played the position himself, and has NFL coaching experience.

Across town at USC, Jackson says he has grown close with Trojans' receivers coach Tee Martin. "He is just a nice chill dude," Jackson said. "He knows how to relate to me as a person. He is just very relatable to me."

The 5-foot-10 170 pound No. 2 cornerback in the nation has 23 offers. He is expecting to trim his list to ten this summer.
