Notebook: Day ten morning session of camp

Josh Shaw

The Trojans took to Dedeaux Field for their Monday morning workout. Check out the notes from the first session from day ten of USC Fall Camp.

USC Fall Camp moved into double digits Monday morning as the Trojans practiced on Dedeaux Field bright and early. It was a short and sweet practice with no-contact, but check out the notes from the Trojans' first practice of day ten.

-The biggest news of Monday morning's workout had to be linebacker Morgan Breslin and safety Josh Shaw watching practice from inside the trainer's tent. Shortly after practice began, both players had their ankles taped, but neither returned to the team activities. Breslin and Shaw stayed on the field for the entirety of the Trojans' workout, but again, they did not participate at all.

-Offensive lineman Aundrey Walker was taking reps with the ones Monday morning…at right guard. Walker tried out right guard on Sunday—a position head coach Lane Kiffin said he played when he first came to USC—but he moved his way up with 1s, as Chad Wheeler took the reps at left tackle.

-Lee watch: Marqise Lee was on the field for Monday morning's practice, but he did not participate in any drills. Kiffin said Lee is day-to-day, but he still has not taken any reps since he went down on day seven with a bruised shoulder.

-Nelson Agholor joined Lee on the sidelines, as both receivers watched Darreus Rogers, De'Von Flournoy, Victor Blackwell and Robby Kolanz (walk-on) participate in drills and team activities. With four scholarship receivers not-participating, Kolanz took a lot of reps, including a 50-yard TD catch from Max Wittek Monday morning.

-Over at running back, Tre Madden and Buck Allen received the majority of the carries Monday morning, as Silas Redd, Justin Davis, D.J. Morgan and Ty Isaac watched from the sidelines. Redd has been participating in run throughs, but did not take any reps during team drills on Monday.

-Quarterback race update: Kiffin finally cut it down from three to two on Sunday, saying the starting QB will either be Wittek or Cody Kessler. Due to the brevity of practice, there weren't many team runs, but there were three key points from Monday's AM session. First, Wittek was picked off by Devian Shelton with a deep ball intended for Flournoy. Second, Wittek was also sacked by Jabari Ruffin. Finally, Kessler found Jahleel Pinner in the endzone with a deep ball over Su'a Cravens.

-The Trojans ended with special team again, as Kessler and Heidari took all the reps for the morning.

The Trojans were not in pads for the AM workout, but still have another practice later tonight, so stay tuned for more on USC Fall Camp.
