Video, one-on-one with USC tight end Randall Telfer, who discusses a lack of depth in his position group...
USC coach Steve Sarkisian opened fall camp Monday with surprising news, announcing junior tight end Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick is academically ineligible to play for the Trojans this fall.
It was the last piece of news the position group needed after Xavier Grimble announced last winter his decision to forego his final season of eligibility to enter the 2014 NFL Draft.
Now the Trojans are down to just two scholarship tight ends in redshirt senior Randall Telfer and freshman Bryce Dixon.
Sarkisian says he does not intend to move a player into the position, adding he likes what walk-on Chris Willson is capable of contributing to the group.
Telfer's participation in practice has been carefully monitored in fall camp since returning from arthroscopic knee surgery that sidelined him during spring practices.
Meanwhile, his freshman study Bryce Dixon is proving early in camp that he will be able to contribute sooner than later in his Trojan career.
