According to a report on, USC freshman quarterback Mark Sanchez will not be charged by Los Angeles County Prosecutors after being arrested in April for alleged sexual assault. Click below to read more.

The NBC report said prosecutors cited "insufficient evidence" against Sanchez as the reason for declining to file charges.

Sanchez had been arrested in the high profile story that included video footage of him being led from his Cardinal Gardens apartment in handcuffs. He was placed on interim suspension by USC while the case was being investigated although he was still allowed to take final spring semester exams.

This fall Mark is expected to the #2 quarterback on the USC team behind John David Booty but he does still face a possible game suspension from USC for using a fake ID and being underage at a bar.

The following statements were released this afternoon by USC after the decision:

Comments from USC redshirt freshman quarterback Mark Sanchez, in response to the District Attorney’s rejection of the allegation against him:

“From the outset of this investigation, I’ve been confident that the facts would come to light and that investigators would confirm that I was innocent of the allegation against me.

“I am grateful to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and the LAPD detectives for their diligence in pursuing the truth and taking the time necessary to make the right decision. I also would like to thank my family, my fellow players, our coaching staff, the USC family and all of the people that stood by me during this very difficult time.

“I look forward to continuing my education at USC and being a positive contributor to our school, student body and team.”

USC head football coach Pete Carroll:

“I’m glad to hear that this is behind Mark and that he has been exonerated. This was a trying process for him. An accusation like this is so damaging, because opinions are formed before all the facts are in.

“Mark is a great kid. His actions always have been exemplary and I know they’ll continue to be so in the future.

“We’ve always worked hard to do the right things in our program. Mark regretted that this situation reflected poorly on him, his family and his teammates. I know he’ll work hard to put this behind him. He can now concentrate on his schoolwork and on preparing to compete for the quarterback job in the fall.”
