Abraham Lincoln HS (NY) wide receiver/tight end Lansford Watson is a very versatile player, and he has the offers to prove it. And while the talented 5 star athlete boasts offers from many top schools across the country, he has found time to narrow his list of suitors to a top three.

“UNC, Maryland, and USC. That’s my top three for sure, in no order.”

When asked what stood out about each of the schools he mentioned in his top three, he responded.

UNC - “I like UNC because they are up and coming and they have a good class coming in, and that’s important to me.”

USC – “Every year they go to a big time bowl game, and they put players in the NFL. They also have a great business school, and that’s what I want to major in. I know that football won’t always be there, and I want something to fall back on. I’m definitely going to visit USC, but we haven’t set anything up yet.”

Maryland – “I like Maryland because Vernon Davis really set a new role for a receiver/tight end. He did it in one year really, so imagine if someone were to come in for a full four years.”

When mentioning what stood out about the schools in his top three, it just so happened that Watson has a connection to USC that many may not know about.

“I know Vidal Hazelton, that’s my boy and we’re both from the same neighborhood. He says L.A. is a lot like New York City and everything is right there to do. He tells me he loves it there. He also told me not to listen to all the hype about how you can’t start as a freshman at USC, because everyone gets their chance.”

It is no secret that the coaching staff at USC has done a great job recruiting the Northeast over the past few years, and Watson has definitely taken notice.

“Yeah, that’s important. It is because I would feel right at home with kids from my block and my area.”

While Watson had previously mentioned he would like to announce his college decision at the Army All-American Game, he may end up pulling the trigger earlier then expected.

“Me and my coach have been talking and we might make a commitment in August sometime. So I still want to take a few visits.”

While Watson’s talent is no question, it is where he will use his talent in the future that remains to be unseen.

“SC still wants me as a receiver. They say they can use me as a Vernon Davis type tight end if I end up growing into that spot, by keeping me on the field when it comes to four wide.”

And while Watson still has time to make his decision, he has set aside a few things he would like to see in the program he eventually chooses.

“Distance won’t play a factor. I just want to go somewhere that I’m comfortable and where I have a shot to play football. Academics are also big, because I want to major in business. I’m looking for a top business program in the country.”

Heading into his senior season, Watson has one goal in mind.

“We are trying to win the city championship, that’s what it’s all about. Forget the stats, I just want to leave with a city championship.”
