Jordan Campbell is a Trojan

Most of us covering recruiting were under the impression Jordan Campbell has had a scholarship offer from SC since its Rising Seniors Camp in June. However, that wasn’t the case, but today his dream offer finally arrived and he accepted as an athlete.

``I talked to Coach Carroll earlier today and he said he wanted to change my life,” Campbell said. “Coach (Nick) Holt was watching my film and said, ‘Now that’s a linebacker right there flying across the field.’ Coach (Ken) Norton and Coach (Pete) Carroll said they were jacked up watching my highlight film and wanted to call me as soon as they were done watching. Then they called me up while I was at school and offered me. He (Carroll) told me to call back after I talked to my mom and dad.

“Coach Carroll and everybody sounded really excited about me going to SC and they think I have a really good chance to play as a true freshman. Coach Carroll said it’s a great thing for SC to have a good fullback. If I don’t play at fullback, they’ll put me on defense and see if I can earn a spot there. He also said he wants me on the field for special teams.”

With Stanley Havili the only fullback certain to return, Campbell’s commitment could be extremely important for the Trojan offense in 2007.

“Coach Carroll was comparing me to Allen Bradford in that we can play different positions and they want to get guys like that on the field.’’ Campbell said. ``Whether it’s at fullback, linebacker, safety or special teams, it really doesn’t matter.”

Campbell wasn’t the only one who had a great day.

“I talked to Coach (David) Watson tonight and he said I’m the first commit he’s had as a coach at SC,” Campbell said.

As mentioned earlier, Campbell waited until this evening to talk things over with his father before he called USC back and verbally committed.

“My dad just asked me what I wanted to do,” Campbell said. “I told him I wanted to play ball at SC. I told him Coach Carroll sounded really excited about me coming to SC. With the depth chart at fullback being limited, I really feel I have a good chance to play right away.”

So, Jordan Campbell will begin his Trojan career as a fullback/linebacker/athlete. Maybe that sounds complicated, but it really isn’t. Campbell will play where he’s needed and said that’s exactly the way he wants it. He’s a true team player.
