Quarterback Jake Locker
We said: The big key to this game is containing Husky quarterback Jake
Locker
As difficult as this game was for the Trojans for a variety of reasons,
Locker was limited to 58 yards rushing and 90 passing. He also had 2 rushing
touchdowns but none through the air. Mission accomplished.
Managing the Elements
We said: Weather can be a game changer in any football contest.
The rain stayed away, but there was a constant drizzle leading up to the
game. Being an evening game in Seattle, Husky Stadium was relatively chilly. It
is difficult to gauge, but the less than ideal weather contributed to the
Trojans less than stellar play. The blessing in disguise for this contest was
that the rain did not fall during the game.
USC Linebackers and Corners
We said: To be successful this weekend against the Washington Huskies,
Trojan linebackers (and defensive line) need to contain Locker.
Rey Maualuga (10 tackles, 5 assisted) and Thomas Williams (6 tackles, 2
assisted) lead the team in tackles. Williams also had an interception. Mission
accomplished.
We also said: As well, Shareece Wright needs to continue his stellar play
at corner.
Shareece Wright played well until he pulled a hamstring and did not return.
Trojan Tailback by Committee
We said: There is a potential for USC tailbacks to make a mark in this
game (particularly if rain falls on the stadium).
Stafon Johnson rushed for 122 yards and Chauncey Washington had 106 yards.
Mission accomplished.
Bonus
We said: Fred Davis will continue to grab passes, but look for the wide
receivers to continue progress in catching John David Booty passes.
Patrick Turner had six receptions for 87 yards and Fred Davis caught four for
72 yards. Mission in progress.
