Pete Carroll and the USC staff have always closed strong in recruiting and USC is looking to make another strong finish in 2008. The Trojans secured the commitment of three-star defensive tackle Jurrell Casey. Casey is one of the top tackles in the state of California and a big addition to the Trojans defensive line class.

Long Beach Poly High School has supplied USC with several outstanding football players over the years from Willie McGinest to Hershel Dennis. Thursday the Trojans got yet another big-time talent in Poly defensive tackle Jurrell Casey.

“I feel I made a real good choice. I get to stay close to home and get a great education,” Casey said of his decision to attend USC. “If I need anything my family is right here. I’ll be close to my family.”

The three-star tackle is one of the best defensive linemen in the state of California and a big addition to the Trojans defensive line class that already included Wes Horton, Malik Jackson and Armond Armstead. The commitment of Casey gives the Trojans a very good defensive line class that could get even better next week with the potential addition of Detroit defensive end Nick Perry.

The 6-2, 282-pound tackle really fills a position of need in USC’s 2008 recruiting class. With the departure of All-American defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis to the NFL Draft, Casey will add much needed depth to the defensive tackle spot and have a chance to compete for early playing time.

The big defensive tackle had long been considered a Trojan lean and his recent official visit opened his eyes to all USC has to offer and strengthened his desire to stay close to home and become a Trojan.

“All the players are real cool and the coaches are great. The school has great academic programs and the campus is nice. It was nice going out there,” Casey said after his visit to USC.

Casey had interest in the Oregon Ducks but the Trojans were his heavy favorite for quite some time and it was no surprise that USC was his final choice.

Casey, a dominant force in the middle of the line, led the Jackrabbits to the Div.1 Pac-5 championship this season with the help of his teammate Vaughn Telemaque.

On the college level Casey will no longer be able to rely on four-star safety Vaugh Telemaque to help him try and win championships as Telemaque decided to leave the state and committed to play football for Randy Shannon at the University of Miami.
