Cierre Wood Shares His Thoughts on Recruiting

Cierre Wood is a recruit that has been an interest for USC's 2009 recruiting class. The last few weeks has seen Wood racking-up offers from countless high level division one schools. Wood is currently a 4-star recruit ranked in Scout.com top 100.

Wood's Accomplishments on the Field

As a 2007 junior, Wood scored 42 touchdowns, rushed for 2,612 yards on 178 carries and caught seven passes for 191 yards. He also played cornerback, recording 50 tackles and three interceptions and led Oxnard (Calif.) Santa Clara to the CIF-MidValley Division Title. Wood averaged 14.7 yards per carry and 200.9 yards per game. He was named the CIF Player of the Year and Ventura County Player of the Year.

Wood had a memorable sophomore season in 2006, highlighted by being named California State Sophomore Player of the Year and First Team All-State. He earned all-CIF First Team honors, All-Ventura County (Coaches and VC Star) and All-League.

As a sophomore he had 2,480 all-purpose yards, 1,407 coming on the ground (12.03 ypc) and 595 coming through the air (37.19 per catch). Scored 25 touchdowns (17 rushing, seven receiving and one a kick return).

Measurables: 4.57 forty, 3.94 shuttle, 32.5 vertical.

CATCHING UP WITH CIERRE WOOD

SCPlaybook caught up with Wood to discuss the status of his recruitment.

The Recruiting Process

Offers have been rolling in for Wood. He said, "I have 13 offers right now. I am at a decent amount." Some of the schools that have offered him includes: USC, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, San Diego State, Florida, Nebraska, North Carolina, Washington, Oregon, Wake Forest and Texas A&M. Wood will not be in a rush to commit.

Wood continued, "I am going to go to the whole process, take all my trips. Make sure that my decision is final. I don't want to make a decision and not be happy about it. I'm going to take my time with this one."

USC's Junior Meeting

When asked if he attended USC's junior meeting, he replied, "I had another obligation that I couldn't put aside. I explained to them (USC Coaches) that I had things to do."

The Immediate Future for Cierre Wood

We asked Wood if he has any favorites at this time and he did not claim any, "I will eventually make a list but not right now."

For the spring and summer, he said, "I will be attending passing leagues."

According to Wood, his current stats are, 6'1" 194 lbs. and his last 40 time was 4.4.

About where coaches want him to play in college he said, "I'm being recruited as a running back but a couple have mentioned running back and corner. My preference would be running back."

Wood reports 3.5 GPA and will take SAT at a later date.
