Alshon Jeffrey: USC is His Dream School

SCPlaybook Catches up with Head Coach Walter Wilson

SCPlaybook spoke with Alshon Jeffrey’s Offensive Coordinator, Dwayne Wages, and his Head Coach, Walter Wilson. The coaches confirmed Jeffrey’s commitment to USC and elaborated on the process of his recruitment.

Alshon Jeffrey, a highly sought after Scout.com 4-star Wide Receiver (6-4, 208 lbs.) recruit gave a verbal commitment to the University of Southern California Trojans. Jeffrey’s ‘dream school’ is USC.

Head Coach, Walter Wilson Speaks about Jeffrey’s Commitment

Talk about Jeffrey’s commitment to the Trojans

“I talked to him (Jeffrey) today, we just got out of practice. I asked him a year ago today, where he would like to go. He said, ‘Southern Cal.’ I said, “Son, you work hard, and you can go where you want to go.”

“I think when he said that, he kind of ‘threw it out there,’ because Southern Cal is his dream school. To make the dream become a reality, it was by working hard. I just told him, “You should be proud of your commitment, because that is where you wanted to go. And you worked hard to get to where you wanted to go. You have got to be special to get a chance to do that (go to USC).”

Which coach recruited Jeffrey?

“Coach (John) Morton and I have a great relationship. We met after I sent him some film on Alshon. He called me and he told me what he thought about it, and it went from there. This relationship has been going on now for about four or five months.”

What is his academic standing?

“He just got an offer last week, USC has high standards, and they wanted to see if he could work in the classroom as well as on the field. They knew he has the ability to play on that level, but they wanted to be sure that he would be able to succeed academically.”

“They waited until his final grades came out for the year, then they pulled the trigger. He’s where he needs to be academically. He has been working on his core classes. He will be taking the ACT on August 10.”

What camps will he be attending this summer?

“We just returned from Alabama. That’s the only camp he attended beside the Nike Camp. We’ll be going to the ‘Rising Stars Camp’ at USC on June 25th.” Offensive coordinator, Coach Wages and Coach Walter will accompany Jeffrey in Los Angeles.

Coach’s Footnote

“This kid is special, I’ll be honest with you, this kid is special. He has that thing you call ‘it’ and you can’t coach ‘it.’ Coach Morton said it best; he put Alshon on his ‘wish list.’ And that says a lot. When you see him, you will understand what I am saying.”

“I talked to Coach Carroll about fifteen minutes yesterday, and it was a good conversation. We’re looking forward to being out in Los Angeles.”
