The USC Trojans are the latest school to offer San Diego (CA) Cathedral Catholic fullback Tyler Gaffney (6-1, 215) a scholarship. Gaffney, a two-sport star, will be in Los Angeles this coming week for the Rising Stars Camp and will take the opportunity to meet with the USC baseball coaches as well.

"They did it over the phone. I talked to all of the (USC) coaches," Gaffney said when asked how he learned of the USC offer. "It's real exciting, it makes you feel like your work has paid off."

Gaffney now has offers from USC, UCLA, Stanford, Notre Dame, San Diego State and Utah among others.

When asked what schools are recruiting him the hardest he replied, "Probably USC, Stanford and San Diego State."

While camping at USC, Gaffney will not only familiarize himself with Pete Carroll and the football program but he also wants to learn more about USC's baseball program.

"I have a meeting with them when I go to USC on the 25th," Gaffney said of the USC baseball coaches.

Gaffney wants to play both football and baseball on the college level and the option to participate in both sports will be a factor in his final decision.

Living in San Diego, Gaffney grew up watching another running back from his hometown, Reggie Bush, carve up defenses on his way to becoming a Heisman Trophy Winner at USC.

"I always followed Reggie Bush and watched him when I was younger," Gaffney said.

As a junior, Gaffney rushed for 1,399 yards and 20 touchdowns in helping lead San Diego (CA) Cathedral to the 2007 CIF-San Diego Section D-III title. He also had 20 catches for 303 yards and five touchdowns.

The 6-1, 215-pound fullback will be very busy the next few weeks attending the Stanford Camp, USC's Rising Stars Camp and the B2G Camp.
