2010 running back D.J. Morgan from Taft High School, who will certainly be one of the top running backs on the West Coast in the 2010 recruiting class, attended USC’s practice on Tuesday and committed to the USC Trojans.
“I told them yesterday when I went and watched practice,” said Morgan. “They were very happy.”
Growing up in Pacoima (CA), Morgan has been a lifelong USC fan and has dreamed of wearing the Cardinal and Gold.
“It’s been my dream all my life to play in the Coliseum in front of all the fans,” Morgan said.
By committing to play for USC, the talented running back will also be able to stay close to his family, which played a factor in his decision.
“It’s a big part because I am just around the corner and my family can check on me, make sure my grades are right and keep me focused and in line,” said Morgan.
Another big factor was the chance to play for the USC coaching staff and Pete Carroll.
“He’s hyped up and running around having fun,” Morgan said of Carroll. “If he’s hyped up then you have no choice than to be hyped up.”
When asked what separated USC from the other schools that he was considering Morgan replied, “The academics, the commitment, the way they treat their players and the excitement of their practices.
“The practices move like a machine. It’s just nonstop running and everybody working hard.
“When you are at the practices, you already feel like you are a part of the family.”
With the commitment, Morgan is now the second member of USC’s 2010 recruiting class, joining Dillon Baxter.
