The USC Trojans rebounded with a dominant performance against the Oregon Ducks Saturday night. SCPlaybook’s Kevin Carden caught up with USC Head Coach Pete Carroll to get the coaches thoughts on the 44-10 victory.

Pete Carroll on The Trojans 44-10 victory over Oregon:

“This is exactly what we needed. This was exactly the game we were looking for. We had to remember what it means to play in the Coliseum. Last night we had a lot of coaches and former players talk about what it means to play here at the Coliseum. So many things worked out well for us tonight. I’m really proud of the way we shut down a great offense. (Brian) Cushing and (Michael) Morgan really came through. We had several players come off the bench and it was beautiful watching them respond to the opportunity.”

Pete Carroll on Mark Sanchez:

“He’s a fantastic deep ball thrower and he really makes us a quick strike football team, which we love. It’s something that we feel is back in the offense.”

Pete Carroll on evolution of Ronald Johnson:

“This kid is an awesome football player now. He’s a fantastic football player. He is playing so fast and so tough. I love the way he is playing. It’s clear that Patrick (Turner) and Damian (Williams) and Ronald (Johnson) are the three guys that need to be out there the most. They have just shown it.”

Pete Carroll on Brian Cushing playing middle linebacker:

“I love him at inside linebacker. He’s just such a natural out there. He loved it and it was great to see him out there and we all have to remember he played with a broken hand.”

Pete Carroll on the play of the wide receivers:

“Ronald Johnson is electrifying; again he just lit the field up with his big play. Damian Williams played beautifully tonight and Patrick Turner continues to play great football for us. Those three guys have really emerged as our guys that we really need to feature, and give them the opportunities to make the plays because they are doing everything that we ask of them.”

Pete Carroll on the passing of Craig Fertig:

“Today the Trojan family took a big loss with the passing of Craig Fertig. He has been such an unbelievable spirit around the team and this program. He had incredible love for this school. His family contacted us and wanted us to win tonight and I’m glad that we could.”
