The USC Trojans received a commitment from Mt. San Antonio College (CA) all-purpose kicker Jacob Harfman. The strong-legged JUCO kicker was offered a scholarship by Pete Carroll after Friday’s practice and immediately accepted.
“I went down to USC for practice today,” Harfman said. “I got a chance to talk to Pete Carroll and that’s when he offered me.”
Harfman, who grew up a fan of the Trojans, wasted no time and committed on the spot.
“I gave him a verbal commitment,” Harfman said. “I have always wanted to play for USC.
“Growing up I used to always watch them on television. They have great players and all the history. It’s just something that is special.”
With David Buehler and Greg Woidneck both graduating, Harfman will have the opportunity to compete for all of the kicking and punting duties in 2009.
“I do everything at Mt. San Antonio,” Harfman said. “At USC, I am looking to have an opportunity to do all phases: kickoff, field goals and punt. They are looking for me to compete at all three.”
Harfman said he connected on 20-of-26 field goal attempts in 2008, including a long of 56 yards and recorded 27 touchbacks.
“I have always had a big leg,” Harfman said. “Recently I have become a lot more accurate.
“I had around a 41-yard average on punts. I’m not completely sure, but I know it’s over 40 yards.”
Harfman chose USC over Georgia, Louisville and Nevada. He plans to enroll at USC in the summer with three years to play two.
