Southern California is home to several of the top defensive backs in the 2010 recruiting class and the USC Trojans just received a commitment from one of the very best in Lakewood safety Dion Bailey.

Bailey, who held offers USC, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, UCLA, Oregon, Colorado and Washington, announced at the Nike 7-on-7 Tournament in Beaverton, OR that he plans to stay local and play for Pete Carroll and the USC Trojans.

"I have a great relationship with the coaching staff and I love Coach Seto," Bailey said of the Trojans. "It's great to be coached by someone like that, and be around that type of coaching staff with their background, and their history of winning.

"They produce players for the NFL so it's a great opportunity."

Bailey recently attended USC's Rising Stars Camp and said the time that he spent on campus with the USC staff aided him greatly in his final decision.

"It showed me how they run practices and how they like things done," Bailey said. "We model our practices after them at Lakewood, so I felt right at home.

"When I went to USC and got to be around the staff, I found out that they are all great guys. I would love to be coached by Coach Seto, so that pretty much did it for me."

The three-star safety grew up watching the Trojans and was impressed with all the NFL-level talent that USC has produced since the arrival of Pete Carroll.

"I wanted to go to a school where I would be coached well and be prepared for the next level if I get that opportunity," he said.

While Bailey waited until today make his commitment public, he had already notified the USC coaches off his decision, and needless to say, they were thrilled to add another talented defensive back to the 2010 class.

"I talked to Coach Carroll and Coach Norton and let them know the news. They were really excited about having me at their school, and the opportunity to coach me and prepare me for the opportunity to play on the next level."

Bailey's good friend and teammate at Lakewood, Jesse Scroggins is also considering USC, as well as Tennessee and Florida and plans to announce his college choice next week at the Elite 11 Camp.

Dion Bailey gives USC a very talented, instinctive safety.
