Frontier High School punter Matt Darr, who is Scout.com’s top rated player at this position in the 2010 recruiting class, has informed the USC coaches today that he intends to make the switch and sign with Fresno State on Wednesday.
The decision to de-commit and sign with the Bulldogs came after Darr took an official visit to Fresno State this past weekend.
“It went good and was real informative,” Darr said of the visit. “I really like what we saw up there and my family liked it too, so it looks like a good fit. I actually called USC today and told them that I made the decision.
“I told them that I really appreciated their consideration and offer to go to their school. But after a lot of stress and thought, me and my family feel that Fresno State is going to be the best fit for college.”
Rumors swirled that Darr wasn’t a solid commit after Pete Carroll left USC to become the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, and he confirmed today that Carroll’s departure did play a role in his decision to de-commit.
“I did commit real early to USC and Pete Carroll and the departure of Pete Carroll and Brian Schneider really affected my decision,” Darr said.
