Gibson Gets USC Offer
Lane Kiffin and his staff are making a strong push to lock up the top local talent in Southern California, as we have seen with the recent commitments of Victor Blackwell and DeAnthony Thomas, and now the Trojans' are in pursuit of OLB/DE Jason Gibson. After visiting Serra to get a look at the talented outside linebacker/defensive end, the USC coaches let Gibson know that they liked what they saw in him and extended an offer. "Orgeron and T-Mac came to one of our practices," Gibson said. "We were talking yesterday and they said they were going to give me a scholarship offer." The 6-3, 210-pound athlete recorded 98 tackles, 17 sacks, two fumbles recovered and one fumble caused while helping to lead Serra to the state championship last season. He is being recruited by USC assistant Todd McNair and has been impressed with what he has seen from the new staff. Jason Gibson at the USC Nike Camp. "Every time I see (McNair) we always have a good time and joke around," Gibson said. "We have pretty good relationship. "The new staff is more out there. I am starting to see them a lot more during the spring and at practice. They are more hands-on." The hands-on approach has already resulted in commitments from Antwaun Woods, Max Wittek, Jalen Grimble, Victor Blackwell and DeAnthony Thomas, and has other talented players taking notice. "I see all the top tier people are trying to go there," he said. "I keep in contact with some of them, like I talk to them whenever I see them at camps or colleges. They are also trying to get the best people." Gibson is rated as the top linebacker in the state of California by Scout.com and is being recruited by most schools as an outside linebacker, but as he informed us, the Trojans are still interested in seeing him as a defensive lineman. "Everybody is recruiting me as a linebacker expect for USC," he said. "They say they could still see me playing defensive end for them." Along with USC, Gibson has interest in Florida, California, Oregon and UCLA. "Florida and Oregon, they are really good programs and their traditions are good," he said. "I have always watched them and I talk to them a lot so we have a good relationship. "With Cal, I like their whole program and tradition. I also like their players and coaches. I am really comfortable with them and everything. "I am getting in contact with UCLA more and we are starting to build a relationship. All of these schools are starting to step up." Gibson said he is still evaluating all his options and plans to take his time in making a decision.
