| Biography: |
THE STATS: Nick is half of the devastating duo, along with Kyle Williams (Ohio State), who lined up at defensive end for Mission Viejo High School. The Diablos ended the year as the top ranked prep football team in California and one of the best in the country. Reed logged 65 tackles, two forced fumbles and led the team with eight sacks his senior year and received many accolades. The OC Register honored Nick as their Defensive Player of the Year in Orange County. He was also named to the Long Beach Press-Telegram’s “Best in the West” list. The Los Angeles Times selected Reed for The Times All-Star Team, which includes only the top players in the greater Southern California area. PrepStar Magazine also recognized him with an all-region selection. 3.5/1140 SAT
STRENGTH: A dedicated leader who loves to hit and works hard in the weight room for optimum performance. Quick off the edge, Reed is a determined pass rusher who measures his success by how often he gets to the opposing quarterback. Nick comes from Mission Viejo High School, one of the best coached and highest rated football programs in the country. Expect Reed to arrive ahead of the game in the coaching learning curve. Nick is also strong in the classroom.
WEAKNESS: Needs to add more muscle for the next level.
PROJECTED POSITION: Defensive end
WHY OREGON? "I committed to them at about four in the afternoon," Reed told Scout.com at the time of his commitment to Oregon over Oregon State. "I was at home and Brian Truelove (Snellville Brookwood, Ga) called me. He had just committed to Oregon.
"I was just thinking about it. Since my mind was made up, I called the Oregon DB coach who was my recruiter (John Neal) and he said I should also call coach (Steve) Greatwood and coach (Mike) Bellotti. They all said they are very excited and glad to have me part of the family. I'm really comfortable that I will do well there. I've told the Oregon St coaches about my decision."
HS COACH: Bob Johnson
MIKE BELLOTTI:
Bellotti called Reed "the very best football player at Mission Viejo." During his media conference when he announced the 2005 recruiting class, Bellotti pointed out Reed's name first when mentioning playmakers. Bellotti favorably compared Reed to Devan Long. |
